Ashley Etienne, former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, said on CNN’s “Laura Coates Live” on Friday that a debate would be a threat to the vice president if former President Donald Trump chose Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate.
“One of the things we’re hearing from The New York Times is that Donald Trump is considering debate performance as a criterion for choosing a nominee,” Coats said.
“So, I get that to some extent, they see her as a threat. She’s a former prosecutor. She’s defended clients in court and she’s protected the interests of California. So, I think he might be a little nervous. But there’s another thing we haven’t taken into account, and that’s that J.D. Vance is going to be the biggest threat to Kamala Harris,” Etienne said.
She continued, “I mean, he’s a fantastic debater. I think he has qualities that I think will really speak to the 1 or 2 percent of people who are still undecided about whether they’re going to vote, who are actually going to pay attention to the debates, because most people don’t pay attention to the debates. I think he has the qualities of being very smart and sharp and quick-witted. I think it’s going to be tough for them to watch the two of them face off. I mean, maybe it’s just me, but I think he’s going to be the biggest threat.”
