JJ McCarthy's extraordinary start to 2024 continues as a moment that will last a lifetime.
The Michigan quarterback is engaged to his longtime girlfriend Katia Klopas, and the two announced the news in a joint Instagram post on Friday.
“Me, you, Marley, forever,” Krupas wrote in the caption of her engagement photo gallery, which included a photo of her wearing white with her dog Marley on the beach.
It was quite the capping of a month in which McCarthy led the University of Michigan to an undefeated national championship before declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
“I couldn't be more grateful for you and everything you do,” McCarthy wrote on Klopas' Instagram in October. “You have made me the best version of myself and it has been such a joy to continue to watch you grow into the amazing woman you are. I love you, Queen!!!
McCarthy, who turned 21 on Saturday, is considered the No. 5 ranked quarterback in this year's draft. According to ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.USC's Caleb Williams is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick.
After declaring for the draft, McCarthy spoke highly of Klopas, calling her his “soulmate.”
“Dearest, Katia… You are my soulmate, my best friend, my rock. I am so happy to be your partner now and always. I am so excited to continue our journey together. I’m excited,” McCarthy shared in a social media post at the time.
The couple, who celebrated their fifth anniversary in October, celebrated the Wolverines' first title since 1997 by kissing on the field at Houston's NRG Stadium.
The quarterback threw for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and four interceptions this season.
McCarthy was the hero of Michigan's Rose Bowl victory over Alabama and led a game-clinching fourth-quarter touchdown drive in the CFP Finals, giving Michigan a 34-14 victory over Washington.
