McCarthy said in a message Sunday that he consulted with Harbaugh about his decision to declare for the NFL Draft while questions remain about the coach's professional future.
“I've talked to a lot of people inside and outside of football, including my family, Coach Harbaugh, and the opinions of people I greatly respect and admire,” McCarthy said.
“This decision was not easy. How could it have happened? I love my teammates. I love my coaches and I love here in Ann Arbor.”

Harbaugh, who coached the 49ers from 2011 to 2014 before arriving at Michigan in 2015, is scheduled to meet with the Chargers next week for their head coaching vacancy.
