Former University of Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy has “some idea” of where he will land in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday after his recent visit with the Giants went very well.
McCarthy, projected to be a top-10 pick, said he has spent the most time with the Giants and Patriots, who hold the No. 2 overall pick, compared to his personal visit with the Giants, who have the No. 6 overall pick. explained. They were each selected 3rd overall.
When asked if he knew where he would land during the battle, the 21-year-old McCarthy replied, “I mean, I have some idea.” Appeared on “The Rich Eisen Show” Wednesday in Detroit, home of this weekend’s draft. “The New York Giants are the team I spent the most time with. They have a great staff — I love the coaches. [Brian] I love you, Dabol. [GM] Mr. [Joe] Shane, I love you [quarterbacks] coach [Shea] Tierney [offensive coordinator] Coach Kafka — Chicago guy.
“Just being able to get in there, I know pretty much everything, because Coach Daboll is from Alabama and he’s our coach.” [Josh] Gattis came to Michigan from Alabama. Formation, motion, play, everything else is similar.
“It was great to be able to install it. I met with them twice and just hosting Easter was really great. I’ve never done anything like that before, but it was so much fun.”
McCarthy’s draft stock continued to rise in the days leading up to the draft. Some reports suggest McCarthy could be taken as high as No. 3 by New England, which needs a quarterback in a trade for first-round pick Mac Jones. His rookie contract has expired.
Washington is also considering adding a franchise QB after trading away QB Sam Howell this offseason.
The Giants’ first-round pick will likely answer the Daniel Jones question. The franchise quarterback, who signed a four-year contract extension in March 2023, struggled until suffering a season-ending ACL tear in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders. .
McCarthy briefly mentioned the Vikings, who own the 11th overall pick, and the Broncos, who have the 12th overall pick.
“It would be an honor to play for any of these teams, but at the end of the day, that’s what’s interesting about this process. It’s their choice.” He said. “Wherever I go, I will be grateful and make the most of it.”
McCarthy, who led the Wolverines to a national title in his final season, is expected to be taken fifth overall by the quarterback-starved Vikings (via the Chargers) in the Post’s last NFL mock draft.

The Broncos traded quarterback Zach Wilson and the 256th overall pick, sending the 207th overall pick to the Jets earlier this week.
“I’m just trying to absorb it all because I only get to do this once.” mccarthy said. “Obviously, as I was doing my rounds…I went to all the coaches and told them how much I appreciate them for how much they’ve done throughout this process. .
“We’re just going through the whole process of becoming a ‘GAM’, a grown man. It’s a fun process, but we’re ready, that’s for sure.”
