J.T. Miller's overtime goal leads Rangers over Canadiens

Rangers’ Overtime Triumph Against Canadiens

The New York Rangers showcased their resilience in a thrilling 5-4 overtime win against the Canadiens on Saturday night.

After starting the game down by three goals, the Blueshirts fought back, with captain JT Miller netting his second goal of the match just under three minutes into overtime, securing the victory at Madison Square Garden.

Coming into this game with a slim one-point lead over the Habs, the Rangers leapfrogged into a tie with the Penguins for the top wild-card position in the Eastern Conference, both teams now sitting at 36 points.

This exhilarating match unfolded in front of several prominent figures from the organization, who were there to celebrate the New Garden era during a special 100th-anniversary event.

Interestingly, this victory marked the third overtime appearance for the Rangers in four games, and this time they managed to clinch the win.

The Rangers appeared to have control, outscoring the Canadiens 5-0, but the visitors turned things around quickly, getting on the board with a goal from Zachary Bolduc about 13 minutes in. He finished off a play set up by Nick Suzuki.

Following that, Arbor Shekai scored on the Habs’ second shot of the game, putting the Canadiens up 2-0 with a goal that went through traffic from the blue line.

Felt like the game might slip away from them, especially after Jake Evans scored just over two minutes later. But the Rangers managed to stem the tide when Noah Laba capitalized on a rebound to score near the end of their first power play.

Artemi Panarin, pushing the pace, was awarded a penalty shot after being fouled by Noah Dobson. He managed to take the lead just before the first intermission, marking the first successful penalty shot for a Ranger since Dan Boyle in 2015.

Having missed their last 11 attempts in the same situation, that was quite a significant moment.

The Canadiens would regain their two-goal lead with a quick one-timer from Josh Anderson, but the Rangers would not go quietly. Will Quill assisted on a tricky shot that narrowed the gap to 4-3, then just 35 seconds later, Miller tied things up with a backhanded shot, bringing the score to 4-all.

In a heart-pounding finale, the Rangers neared their first lead early in the third when Sam Carrick nearly pushed the puck through a crowded zone, but it was ultimately ruled that he kicked it, nullifying the attempt.
