J.T. Realmuto impresses with a jumping tag on Cody Bellinger at home plate in an amazing play

JT Realmuto, the Phillies catcher, found himself spotlighted for his defensive play during a game against the Yankees.

In a tense moment, Realmuto leaped to make a tag as Cody Bellinger attempted to slide past him.

The sequence started when Jazz Chisholm Jr. launched a fly ball that was caught by Johann Rojas in left-center field during the Yankees’ 4-3 win.

After catching the ball, Rojas threw it to home plate to try to catch Bellinger, who was tagging up from third. Realmuto had to leap to grab the ball and, as Bellinger approached, he was quick to place his glove just beside his neck to tag the runner out.

Bellinger appeared taken aback when the umpire called him out at home plate.

This play by Realmuto was crucial, keeping the Phillies in contention, especially after Otto Kemp’s homer pulled them closer in the game.

Reactions on social media ranged from fans requesting cards featuring Realmuto to comments praising his performance. One person remarked on x, “I need a card that requires @topps!!!”

Another noted simply, “JT (just incredible),” while more users echoed the sentiment, dubbing Realmuto “Air JT” due to his impressive jump.

Even with Realmuto’s highlight moment, the Yankees held on to secure their 4-3 victory over the Phillies.

In the game, Realmuto’s stats showed him hitting .274/.327/.401 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs. He finished one for four against the Yankees.
