Jack Draper’s Mixed Doubles Experience at the US Open

This time around, it felt more like a “small exhibition” for Jack Draper.

During the first two rounds of the mixed doubles event at the US Open on Tuesday night, Draper enjoyed a light-hearted moment with his partner Jessica Pegula. However, after their semi-final exit, he sensed that the atmosphere had shifted. They faced Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Ultimately, Swiatek and Ruud advanced to the finals, defeating Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

Post-match, Draper reflected that his feelings were slightly altered. “I think there was a moment yesterday when I felt more like it was an exhibition. I was in the locker room tonight, looking at Iga and Casper—those two are completely dialed in,” he remarked.

The pair didn’t miss a beat, sharing laughs after they dominated in their quarterfinals match on Tuesday evening.

“She playfully apologized,” Draper mentioned about their podium press conference the following day. Even after the semi-final loss, their dynamic brought them joy, and they kept joking about their experiences throughout the tournament.

Prior to their partnership, they had exchanged four words that were subtly lighthearted, but even after the loss, the humor remained intact between them.

During their time on the podium, Pegula joked about Draper’s roots. “At one point, he brought up Buffalo, New York, and that’s how we bonded. I was surprised to learn he was a fan of the Goo Goo Dolls. He even sang one of their songs,” she said, smiling.

Draper quickly confessed that he had caught wind of Pegula’s origins as well. “When they announced, ‘Jessica Pegula of Buffalo, New York,’ I thought, ‘Oh, now I get it!'” he chuckled.
