Jack Hughes and Tate McRae are still making headlines. The Devils player recently secured a gold medal at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games. According to a source mentioned on Wednesday’s Entertainment Tonight, Hughes and the “Greedy” singer have been “enjoying getting to know each other,” especially after fueling dating rumors late last year.
“They share a lot of mutual friends, which is how they started hanging out,” the insider noted. “He has been to her concerts, and she supports him during his games.”
McRae, 22, who was previously in a relationship with singer The Kid LaRoi, first caught attention with Hughes, 24, during a dinner in New York last November.
The buzz around their relationship grew when the “You Broke Me First” artist showed up at one of Hughes’ games in Newark a month later.
Now, both Hughes and McRae seem focused on the 2026 Winter Olympics. Hughes, a first-round pick for the Devils, is paired with his brother Quinn on the U.S. men’s hockey team, while McRae, from Calgary, Alberta, became popular for her appearance in an NBC ad showcasing the game and Team USA players.
In a social media post, McRae shared, “…You all know I’m depressed in Canada,” referencing some backlash she received earlier this month, as reported by People magazine.
Hughes scored the golden goal in the U.S.’ 2-1 overtime win over Canada last weekend, making history by bringing home the first gold for U.S. men’s hockey since 1980 and becoming a bit of an Olympic hero.
However, shortly after the festivities, some controversy arose regarding the men’s team’s reaction to a joke made by President Trump during a congratulatory call. He remarked that he needed to invite the U.S. women’s hockey team to the White House as well, or face potential impeachment.
Video from the call showed team members laughing at the comment, but some later expressed regret about their response.
In an interview on “Good Morning America,” the Hughes brothers discussed the situation. Quinn, a defenseman for the Minnesota Wild, said, “I’m really happy for them. There’s certainly a lot going on in the social media space around our teams.”
“Over the past few summers, we’ve been training and getting to know many of the girls really well,” he added.
McRae seems to have liked a congratulatory Instagram post from Hughes’ younger brother Quinn, although rumors suggest that some likes may have been removed, according to Cosmopolitan. The men’s team appears to be in good spirits.
While Hughes and McRae currently follow each other on Instagram, the source from Entertainment Tonight highlighted McRae’s current feelings about romance.
“She’s not seeking anything too serious,” the source stated. “But he really likes her.”
