Jack Hughes Seeks Puck from Historic Olympic Victory

Jack Hughes, a star for Team USA in men’s hockey, is on a quest to reclaim the puck that clinched the gold medal against Canada during the 2026 Winter Olympics. It’s a memorable moment, reminiscent of the legendary 1980 “Miracle on Ice.” This puck found its way into the Hockey Hall of Fame, an honor Hughes is not entirely thrilled about.

“That’s what I’m trying to get,” he shared. “That’s bullshit. In my opinion, the Hockey Hall of Fame has it. Why would they have that puck?” This reflects his strong feelings about the puck being displayed where he believes it doesn’t belong.

Interestingly, Hughes isn’t alone in wanting to take back a piece of Olympic history. Megan Keller, who also secured a gold for Team USA in women’s hockey shortly before Hughes’ win, has her puck being showcased as well. In a recent TNT interview, Hughes admitted he’s still trying to understand last month’s thrilling events, especially regarding the puck’s current whereabouts.

“Now that I know where it is, I want to get it back to the United States,” he said, expressing his desire to hold onto something so significant. “I don’t see why Megan Keller or I shouldn’t have that puck.” It’s worth noting, though, that the Hockey Hall of Fame is located in Toronto, Canada, the city where both gold medal games took place.

The Hall of Fame’s exhibit features other notable items, including jerseys and sticks from Team USA’s Hilary Knight and Matthew Tkachuk, along with a Team Canada jersey worn by hockey legend Sidney Crosby. “These gifts represent defining moments on the world’s biggest stage,” stated the Hall’s President and CEO Jamie Dinsmore. He emphasized that the “Olympic ’26” exhibit will preserve these unforgettable Olympic moments for visitors worldwide.

While many are keen for these items to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, Hughes has a more personal goal in mind. He hopes to present the puck to his father, a collector of memorabilia. “I want to give it to my dad; I think he would love it,” Hughes remarked. Though he appreciates the accolades, it seems that for him, some trophies are better kept in the family.

Looking toward the future, Hughes mentioned he aims for a spot in the Hall of Fame himself someday, although that’s a goal that remains on the horizon for now.
