Jack Schlossberg Launches Political Campaign

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, launched his campaign this week, presenting a serious tone in his video announcement. Yet, his online presence tells a contrasting story.

While Schlossberg comes from a prestigious lineage, many voters in New York City recognize him more for his humorous and often absurd viral videos rather than his political pedigree. He’s known for doing quirky things, like singing strange love songs to Second Lady Usha Vance or cleverly trolling her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance. Recently, he has partnered with various Democratic candidates to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for the 2024 election, including working with former Senator Bob Casey, who lost to Republican Dave McCormick last year.

In these videos, he has parodied Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” and even answered a lobster on the phone for comedic effect. His online charisma has earned him a significant following—around 850,000 on TikTok and nearly 770,000 on Instagram, which is impressive for anyone trying to make a name as an influencer.

Despite his comedic style, Schlossberg’s comments on social media sometimes lead him to reflect on their oddness. He pointed out that breaking through on the internet often requires saying something unexpected. “The Democrats aren’t playing that game as well as we are,” he observed, sharing that he aims to create content he finds amusing or absurd, which he believes serves a purpose.

However, there’s not a lot of detailed information available about his political experience. Recently, he worked as a political correspondent for VOGUE during the last presidential campaign and has been involved in various political roles. He graduated from Yale and Harvard Law School and has served as a Democratic National Committee delegate. Furthermore, he has spent over a decade with the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation.

Schlossberg’s recent recognition includes presenting the Profile of Courage Award to former Vice President Mike Pence, highlighting Pence’s resistance to Donald Trump’s pressure regarding the 2020 election results. Despite his connections to political royalty, he remains a vocal critic of Trump, whom he accused of promoting a “constitutional crisis” during a campaign video.

Interestingly, Schlossberg has also been critical of his cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who sought the presidency last year but later supported Trump for a cabinet position. He called RFK Jr. a “dangerous person” during a recent appearance on MSNBC.

As for his campaign, Schlossberg is aiming to replace retiring U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler. He believes New York’s 12th Congressional District needs a representative who can transform the city’s creativity and energy into political strength.

His campaign website provides a brief biography and a donation link, but it lacks substantial policy details, presenting only a set of promises to constituents. Democratic commentator Kaivan Shroff noted the ambiguity in Schlossberg’s campaign, particularly given the absence of clear policy positions.

Efforts to reach Schlossberg for further comment went unanswered.
