Jack Schlossberg's congressional bid criticized by Democrats

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, is entering the race for Congress, specifically aiming to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District. It’s a high-profile area that includes landmarks like the United Nations, Times Square, and Central Park. However, some even within the Democratic Party are skeptical, questioning whether he truly understands his own position and what he stands for.

The 32-year-old lives in a modest one-bedroom apartment in Chelsea, where he curiously sleeps on childhood bedsheets decorated with sharks, lying on two massage tables. His candidacy announcement followed the decision of long-time Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler to retire. Despite the colorful reveal of his intentions, not many people came forward to back him publicly; his supporters in the media were thin on the ground, with only a doorman and former talk show host David Letterman lending any verbal support.

Many remain unsure about Schlossberg, partly due to his unconventional social media presence, which includes odd videos that have drawn mixed reactions. For instance, he once made a peculiar statement questioning the attractiveness of Usha Vance, the wife of Vice President J.D. Vance.

Frustrated relatives have said things like, “Does Jack even know who he is?” His history includes cringe-worthy comments and juvenile antics that have left others unsure about his political prospects. A noted Democratic activist flatly stated, “I think he’s crazy,” expressing a desire for candidates with more substantial experience.

Schlossberg aims to address issues like healthcare and education while taking on Donald Trump. He claims there’s a constitutional crisis arising from what he sees as the monopolization of power by one individual. Still, some Democrats are wary of him, seeing his entry into politics as a distraction rather than a solution. One notable figure emphasized the importance of sticking to experienced candidates in the party.

On the family front, parents Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg are reportedly supportive of his political ambitions. Caroline commented on her son’s social media behavior, admiring his ability to navigate risks—though many find his behavior concerning. Schlossberg boasts a significant social media following, with over 776,000 Instagram users and 839,000 on TikTok.

Schlossberg has a background that includes attending prestigious schools like Yale and Harvard, where he even passed the bar exam on the first try—unlike his uncle, JFK Jr. Interestingly, his social life seems to involve less partying and more people-watching over coffee, along with hobbies like paddleboarding and ballet.

His relationships, too, are a topic of interest. Currently, he is linked to Chrissy Jones, founder of Skytin Yoga Studio, and model Dana Frezehas. Despite public intrigue, Schlossberg has never held a significant job, apart from brief writing gigs, raising questions about his qualifications for office.

Reflecting on the past, he embodies some traits reminiscent of his late uncle JFK Jr., who was known for his charm and people-focused style. There’s a shared affinity for activities like kayaking and a similar public image. However, critics have pointed out that JFK Jr. made substantial contributions by the time he reached this age—putting more substantial effort into advocacy and public service.

Overall, while Schlossberg’s charisma may draw some admirers, many remain uncertain about whether he can effectively translate that into a meaningful political platform, leading to a mixture of skepticism and cautious curiosity about his candidacy.
