Jackie Lacey, 1st Black L.A. D.A., Backs Nathan Hochman over George Gascón

Jackie Lacey, the first black and first female Los Angeles County district attorney who lost to George Soros-backed George Gascón in 2020, has endorsed challenger Nathan Hochman in the 2024 district attorney race. .

The Hockman camp is statement Monday:

Jackie Lacey, a lifelong Democrat and the first woman and African American to serve as Los Angeles County District Attorney, today announced her support for Nathan Hockman for district attorney.

She said that by not properly enforcing the law, Prosecutor George Gascón has emboldened criminals and caused an increase in crime.

“The District Attorney’s Office needs leadership that understands that, above all, its mission is to seek justice by sending a message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our county. That is not the case with the current District Attorney.” said Lacy. “Criminals are more brazen because they know they have allies in the office. They know the office’s policies better than we do. They are proactive in making us safer. The time has come to elect someone who will do the same.”

Lacey, who served as Los Angeles County District Attorney from 2012 to 2020, said he supports Hochman’s decades of experience in criminal justice as a prosecutor and defense attorney, as well as his commitment to improving public safety every day.

“I support Nathan Hockman for district attorney because I feel we are much less safe than we were four years ago,” Lacy said. “It’s time to thank the District Attorney, apologize, and elect someone with a conscience. Please join me in voting for District Attorney candidate Nathan Hockman.”

Mr. Hockman, who has served as a federal prosecutor, assistant U.S. attorney overseeing the Justice Department’s tax division, chairman of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, and a public defender, said he is extremely grateful for Mr. Lacy’s support. He was previously endorsed by three-term District Attorney Steve Cooley and the Deputy District Attorneys Association, the union representing Los Angeles County prosecutors.

“Jackie’s endorsement means a lot to me and I am so grateful that she supported my district attorney campaign,” Hochman said. “She was an extraordinary district attorney who served for 34 years and worked every day to pursue justice on behalf of the people of Los Angeles County, where she was born and raised.”

Lacey became a target of the Black Lives Matter movement. Her husband was charged with a misdemeanor firearms violation for bringing a gun to her front door as he urged Black Lives Matter protesters to leave.

The charges came later. was fired. But thanks to millions of dollars in spending by Soros and heavy support from the California Democratic Party, Gascón won the 2020 election. That included a reversal by then-LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, who initially supported Lacey but withdrew his support after Black Lives Matter. The riots and Soros’ millions seem to have changed his mind.

Gascón has faced two previous recall attempts, but the last one fell just short after county officials claimed they found invalid signatures on the recall petition. He has prioritized criminal justice “reform” and is blamed for the crime wave.
