Jackson Koibun Becomes a PGA Tour Winner at Just 21

At just 21 years old and only 24 days into his professional golf career, Jackson Koibun has achieved the remarkable feat of winning a PGA Tour event.

This past Sunday, he prevented world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler from claiming the title at the 3M Open, held at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Koibun finished the final round with a score of 5 under par, leading to a tournament total of 25 under par. In contrast, Scheffler’s impressive final round score of 8 under left him three strokes short of Koibun’s victory.

Earlier in the tournament, on Saturday’s third round, Koibun posted an incredible score of 10 under par, putting him at 20 under for the event and highlighting his strong position heading into the final day. Notably, his back nine score of 28 set a new tournament record for that hole.

Clearly focused on winning, Koibun started strong, going 3 under after the first six holes in the final round.

Despite the pressure, as Scheffler began to gain momentum—notable for his three consecutive birdies on the back nine—Koibun remained steady. He calmly made pars on the final two holes, including the challenging par-5 18th, where he ultimately sealed his win with a triumphant fist pump after making the final putt.

Reflecting on the moment, Koibun mentioned feeling the weight of the crowd’s anticipation—“Scotty’s coming, Scotty’s coming.” He noted how he tried to keep his head straight and just play the golf he knew he could.

This victory not only nets him a hefty check for $1.584 million but also marks what he hopes will be the first of many wins on the PGA Tour. Koibun, who turned professional earlier this month, is no stranger to winning, having held the title of the world’s top amateur, but he feels this experience is singular.

“I love the game. Golf is everything to me. It’s tough to step away from it,” he shared, emphasizing his deep passion for the sport.
