One person was killed and two others were injured in a gunshot attack Sunday night at a bar in Jacksonville Beach, local authorities said.
Multiple suspects were still at large late Sunday as police warned of an active shooting spree in the Florida city, Jacksonville Police Sgt. Tonya Tater said: According to First Coast News.
One person was shot and the other two shooting victims are in stable condition, Tater said.
Police said the shooting occurred “in the open” at some of the city’s waterfront bar districts on St. Patrick’s Day, a popular drinking holiday at the start of the Sunshine State’s raucous spring break season.
“The Jacksonville Beach Police Department is currently investigating an active shooter incident in the downtown area,” the department posted. Sunday night on Facebook. “This is an active scene and we are asking everyone to shelter in place at this time.”
The shelter-in-place order was lifted around 11 p.m., and officers remained on scene.
It’s unclear what led to the violence or whether authorities are searching for any number of gunmen.
“People were scared. I’m sure some of them were worried they were going to get shot.” one bar owner told News4Jax.
The police department plans to hold a press conference at 8 a.m. Monday to provide more information about the shooting.
