Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s Chemistry on Wuthering Heights
During the filming of “Wuthering Heights,” Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie developed a strong on-screen and off-screen chemistry. In this adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 novel, Elordi plays Heathcliff while Robbie portrays Catherine Earnshaw. Set in the 18th century, the story unfolds a deeply emotional and tumultuous love story.
As the film prepares for its February 13 release, Robbie and Elordi participated in various promotional activities. A month prior to the release, Robbie mentioned in a conversation that she felt a sense of “codependency” on Elordi, who is 28 years old.
Robbie recalled the early days on set, saying, “In the beginning, he seemed to always be nearby, just watching, and by the third day, I started looking for him, thinking, ‘Oh, he must be around. Where is he now?’”
Feeling a bit anxious when she couldn’t find him, Robbie elaborated, “I felt pretty lost, like a child without their blanket.”
Elordi echoed similar sentiments, describing what he felt was a “mutual attachment” between them. He stated, “Regardless of the script, I would always position myself close to Margot. I loved observing her, even how she sipped her tea.”
While discussing their connection in an interview, Elordi admitted he was instantly drawn to Robbie. Robbie shared in another interview that Fennell, the film’s director, intended for them to bond while filming and even arranged for both of their dressing rooms to have a shrine dedicated to each other.
“Emerald went into our dressing room and we made a shrine to each other,” Robbie noted. Elordi described Fennell’s approach as “interesting” and “brilliant.”
Robbie added that creating the shrine was an enlightening experience. “It felt very freeing. We had locks of hair, pictures, and candles as part of it… Mine was a shrine to Jacob, and he had one for me. It was hilarious,” she recalled.
Elordi mentioned that he admired Robbie long before their partnership in “Wuthering Heights.” He originally became a fan when he saw her on the Australian soap “Neighbors.” Later, after watching her performance in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” he realized her rise to global stardom.
Moreover, before they embarked on a lengthy promotional tour, Robbie gifted Elordi a pair of custom matching rings as a special token of their collaboration.
The designer, CeCe Fine-Hughes, explained to FOX News Digital that the matching rings celebrate both the film and the characters, further highlighting the connection Robbie and Elordi shared during the project.
“The chunky gold signet ring features two hand-enameled skulls embraced amidst thorns—symbolizing both the bittersweet nature of love and the harshness of life,” Hughes elaborated.
The rings also bear a famous line from Brontë: “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same” along with the dates “1847-2026,” marking the book’s and film’s respective releases.
The film “Wuthering Heights” is set to hit theaters on February 13.
