Jacob Misiorowski’s Meteoric Rise in Baseball
Jacob Misiorowski has burst onto the baseball scene in an impressive way. The young right-handed pitcher, who can throw an astonishing 103 mph, made his MLB debut with the Milwaukee Brewers last month and managed to go hitless for the first 11 innings of his career.
In his initial game, he ended up in a bit of a spasm, but on his second outing, he pitched six flawless innings. To date, he has given up just eight runs over 25.2 innings, with five of those coming in a single game, leading to a commendable 2.81 ERA.
Following Matthew Boyd’s announcement to skip the All-Star Game, Misiorowski was tapped as a replacement for the Midsummer Classic. Interestingly enough, he has played the fewest games—just five—before being selected for an All-Star Game, which raises some eyebrows.
While his astonishing talent and potential are undeniable, many in the baseball community have expressed concerns regarding the fairness of his selection. For instance, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Christopher Sanchez, who has a solid 2.59 ERA and 13 more starts, was overlooked.
Keith Hernandez, a Mets broadcaster, voiced his dismay over Sanchez being excluded, calling it a “tragedy.” He pointed out that Sanchez’s numbers can’t be ignored. Others, too, echoed this sentiment, mentioning that there are several deserving players like Ranger Suarez and Kodai Senga who are still waiting at home.
Yet, it’s not all criticism. There are those who applaud the MLB for spotlighting a burgeoning star like Misiorowski. One user remarked that while MLB often faces backlash for failing to promote young talent, showcasing him despite his limited experience could draw in younger fans.
As it stands, Misiorowski is still considered a prospect, but there’s a stipulation that he must transition from that status by September 1st, which requires pitching a total of 50 innings and remaining on the active roster for at least 45 days.
In the coming days, Misiorowski is set to pitch against the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis, marking another significant moment in what many hope will be a long and successful career.
Looking ahead, the All-Star Game is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on Tuesday. This event had initially been slated for 2021 but was relocated to Coors Field following new voter requirements outlined in the Election Integrity Act of 2021.
