Familiar Faces at Cardinals Training Camp

The Cardinals were pleased to see some familiar faces as they kicked off their training camp.

Jacoby Brissett joined the first day of Arizona’s training camp on Thursday, even with a contract review still pending.

Brissett, who took on a leading role during mandatory minicamp back in June, practiced alongside quarterbacks Gardner Minshew II, Carson Beck, and Kedon Slovis. It’s interesting to see how these dynamics play out, isn’t it?

The 33-year-old quarterback missed the voluntary part of the offseason training program, reportedly while the team worked towards an agreement.

Coach Mike LaFleur explained Brissett’s return simply. “So he’s here,” he stated to reporters. “He has a contract, and today is his first day of practice.”

LaFleur further mentioned that the negotiations with Brissett are “still ongoing.” He has a base salary of $4.88 million, with $1.5 million guaranteed, and could earn up to $5.39 million through incentives.

“There’s been a productive relationship between us and his team,” LaFleur added, acknowledging that things are still a work in progress but moving positively.

Last season, Brissett participated in 14 games for the Cardinals, throwing for 3,366 yards, with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Quite a solid performance, if you ask me.

When it comes to the potential quarterback competition this season, LaFleur was somewhat reserved. His focus seems to be on getting Brissett acquainted with the new strategies.

“I’m not really worried about that right now,” he said. “We’re just focusing on improving day by day.”

He emphasized that they don’t need to peak too early. “Like I told him yesterday, we don’t need to be at our top on July 23rd. We need to improve today and challenge one another.”

“Our goal is to get to September 13th and look back, asking ourselves if we did everything necessary to be the best Cardinals team possible.” It feels like there’s a lot riding on this season.
