Jaguar Land Rover Halts U.S. Shipments for a Month – What You Need to Know!

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) from the UK has chosen to tackle President Donald Trump’s tariffs by stopping shipments of cars made in the UK to the US.

“As we navigate new business terms with our partners, we are implementing several short-term strategies, including pausing shipments in April, to create a plan for the medium to long term,” Reuters reported, citing a statement from the automaker issued on Saturday. This has been reported.

The Associated Press (AP) discussed with analysts on Saturday who predicted that other British car manufacturers will likely take similar actions.

Referring to the AP as an “auto industry specialist” and a business economics professor at the University of Birmingham, David Bailey remarked, “We foresee similar pauses from other manufacturers,” he told Wire Service.

A Reuters article stated:

The British automotive sector, employing 200,000 individuals directly, is notably vulnerable to new tariffs. Following the European Union, the US is the second largest importer of cars made in the UK, holding almost a 20% market share according to industry organization SMMT.

Jaguar Land Rover, a major manufacturer in the UK, highlighted in their announcement that the US is a crucial market for luxury brands. They sell 400,000 units of Range Rover Sport, Defenders, and other varieties annually, with exports to the US accounting for roughly a quarter of their total sales.

This week, Trump declared that mutual tariffs would be imposed on foreign nations, including a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, as reported by Breitbart News on Wednesday.

“Wednesday marks President Donald Trump’s ‘liberation day’, reconfiguring trade relations between the US and other nations, as well as blocs like the European Union and Canada, who are in a state of alarm, while the UK remains composed and is collaborating with Trump to seek trade opportunities,” noted Breitbart’s London Bureau.

As per Reuters, JLR already has several months’ worth of vehicles available in the US, yet is not affected by the newly announced tariffs.

In the meantime, China announced on Friday that it would implement a 34% tariff on American products in retaliation against Trump’s tariffs, according to Breitbart News. “President Trump dismissed China’s retaliatory measures on Friday, with Beijing asserting he “misjudged” the situation and acted in “panic” following the tariff declaration.
