“This morning, I had the difficult task of informing Doug Pederson of my intention to hire a new head coach to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars,” team owner Shad Khan said in a statement via ESPN. “Doug is an accomplished football player who will undoubtedly enjoy the next chapter of his impressive NFL career, and I will be rooting for Doug and his wife Jeanie when the opportunity arises.

“Both Doug and I wish his experience here in Jacksonville could have ended better, but first and foremost I have a passion for supporting our team, especially our team, and looking forward to being rewarded.” We have an obligation to serve the best interests of our fans.'' In that spirit, now is the time to bring in new leadership. ”

Khan indicated that general manager Trent Baalke will remain in his position.

“I strongly believe that next season it is possible to get back to the winning environment that we had here a while ago,” Khan added. “I will work with General Manager Trent Baalke and others within and close to the organization to hire leaders who share my aspirations and are ready to seize the great opportunities Jacksonville has to offer. intend to.”

Pederson was hired to replace Urban Meyer, but Meyer had a disastrous 2021 season that ended with him being fired before the year was over.

The Super Bowl champion head coach took a season off after helping lead the Philadelphia Eagles back to the top of the NFL. He took over in 2022, got the Jaguars back in the playoffs, and seemed to capitalize on Trevor Lawrence's potential.

Jacksonville came back to dominate the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card Round, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs by just seven points.

The team missed the playoffs in 2023 with 9 wins and 8 losses.

The 2024 season was derailed by injuries and missed opportunities. The Jaguars started the season 0-4, losing by less than a touchdown to the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.

Lawrence suffered several injuries, forcing the team to start backup Mac Jones. The team struggled to get into a rhythm.
