Detroit Lions running back Jahmil Gibbs is having a strong rookie season. The former Alabama football star has rushed for 872 yards in 13 games so far this year.
On Sunday, Gibbs had a solid performance against the Minnesota Vikings, rushing for 80 yards and scoring two touchdowns. With the Christmas Eve victory, the Lions won their first district title since 1993.
After the game, Gibbs returned to his locker and discovered an unexpected message from the NFL stating that he had been randomly selected for a league-issued drug test.

Gibbs played a key role in the Lions' turnaround this season. He gave a nice compliment to veteran running back David Montgomery.
Gibbs also caught four passes for 20 yards in Sunday's win.
NFL legend Calvin Johnson waited nearly three years to respond to Lions post after divisional game
A post on Gibb's Instagram Story showed a note taped to her locker asking her to attend a “drug testing site” immediately.
“You have been selected today by the independent administrator of the NFL Drug Testing Program to complete testing for performance-enhancing substances,” the notice reads. “Report to the drug testing area as soon as possible and meet with the Doping Control Officer (DCO) to discuss the testing process.”
Admittedly, there's no clear link between Gibbs' strong performance and mandatory drug testing.
It is considered standard practice in the NFL for players to receive notification that they must take a drug test. If a player refuses to take a test, it is usually considered a positive result and can result in significant penalties.
The Lions selected Gibbs in the first round of this year's draft. Since then, he has surpassed the late Mel Farr as the fifth-most yards from scrimmage by a rookie in a single season.
