Jutta Lierdam Sets Olympic Record, Jake Paul Shares Emotional Moment

On Monday, Dutch speed skater Jutta Lierdam made headlines by breaking an Olympic record during her gold medal-winning run, leaving her fiancé, Jake Paul, visibly emotional.

Paul could hardly contain his excitement as he watched Lierdam not only fulfill his expectations for gold at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games but also shatter the 1,000-meter speed skating record with a remarkable time of 1:12.31.

His joy was palpable; he stood in the stands, eyes wide, alongside family, all of whom shared in the happy tears as they celebrated Lierdam’s victory.

Breaking the record previously set by teammate Femke Koch, who skated just before Lierdam, was a significant achievement for the 27-year-old athlete. Tears streamed down her face when she saw her final time, evoking a similar response from Paul.

This victory marked Lierdam’s first Olympic gold and her second overall medal, having previously won silver at the 2022 Beijing Games.

Interestingly, this achievement was particularly special because Lierdam had faced a significant setback before the Olympics. She experienced a fall during the Dutch Olympic trials, which at one point put her participation in doubt. Thankfully, she was ultimately chosen for the Dutch national team, a decision that proved to be undeniably right.

Before Lierdam’s record-breaking attempt, Koch had already claimed silver with a phenomenal time of 1:12.59. She is also expected to vie for gold in the upcoming 500m event.

Completing the podium in the 1,000 meters was Japan’s Miho Takagi, who finished third with a time of 1:13.95. Meanwhile, American skater Erin Jackson, initially in first place, gradually fell down the rankings, finishing with a time of 1:15.00. Her teammate Brittany Bowe narrowly missed out on a medal, coming in fourth at 1:14.55.

Jake Paul, known for his polarizing persona, isn’t shy about sharing his feelings. While he expressed overwhelming joy during Lierdam’s achievement, he also took to social media to voice criticism about other topics, notably the Super Bowl halftime show by Bad Bunny. Paul labeled the artist a “fake national” for his vocal opposition to U.S. immigration policies.

He clarified his stance, saying, “I did not call anyone a ‘fake national’ because they are from Puerto Rico. I love Puerto Rico.” Paul emphasized his support for Puerto Rico but stated that criticism of ICE while being a beneficiary of the country was contradictory.

The couple got engaged in March 2025, sharing their joyous news through a post on social media.
