Jake Paul Prepares for Fight After Controversial Remarks
Jake Paul is gearing up for a fight this weekend, marking his return to the ring after defeating Mike Tyson in November. Ahead of this matchup, he made headlines with some pointed comments directed at Piers Morgan.
On Thursday, Paul appeared on Piers Morgan’s uncensored show, where the British host questioned his credibility as a fighter and his selection process for opponents.
Morgan specifically took issue with Paul fighting the 58-year-old Tyson, describing the bout as akin to a “disease.”
In response, Paul stated, “It’s entertainment. If Mike Tyson wants to fight you, who wouldn’t say yes?” He also mentioned the financial incentives, noting, “He left for tens of millions of dollars to support his family for life. We had a historic fight that 188 million people watched, so it’s no surprise.”
Morgan acknowledged the fight’s intrigue and profitability but stressed that it did little to validate Paul’s status as a legitimate fighter. “As a businessman, you’re incredible,” he remarked. “When I took it on as a business venture with Tyson, you absolutely crushed it regarding numbers.”
Paul countered by claiming he has aimed to challenge established fighters like Canelo Alvarez, but that opportunity hasn’t materialized. “I don’t know what you guys expect. I tried to fight Canelo, but he backed out. You said he would destroy me, so what more do you want?”
He continued, expressing frustration at the criticism surrounding his career. “I’m trying to fight the best. You’re making assumptions without knowing the facts,” he added.
Morgan responded by suggesting that if Paul fought a prime Tyson, the outcome would be in Tyson’s favor. Paul shot back, “And you’re not hitting the gym; you’re still out of shape. Maybe you should consider that.” He implied that Morgan’s opinion wasn’t as significant as the host believed.
When Morgan questioned why Paul chose to appear on his show if he thought Morgan’s opinion was irrelevant, Paul replied, “I’m here to attract your audience for pay-per-views. I couldn’t care less about your show; this is strictly a business.” He ended the interview abruptly.
Paul’s next fight is scheduled against Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. in California this Saturday, with Chavez Jr. being a relatively younger 39 years old and more actively involved in the ring compared to Tyson.
