Jake Paul insists he’ll be ready for the Mike Tyson fight.
In a video posted to his social media accounts on Friday, the influencer-turned-professional boxer said he was shocked to hear that Tyson’s highly anticipated July 20 bout had been postponed due to a recurrence of his ulcer.
The medical incident left Tyson feeling dizzy and nauseous during the flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, just before the plane landed.
Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, announced in a press release on Friday that the bout will be postponed to a later date.
A new day of competition To be announced by June 7th.
Paul reacted with sadness to the postponement of his X account.
“Obviously, this is devastating news. I’m heartbroken and speechless. I’m devastated,” said the 27-year-old Paul. “We’ve worked so hard here in this camp and I feel so bad for everyone involved in this event, everyone on the undercard, that this opportunity has been taken away from us. But my biggest concern is Mike’s health. I love Mike and have so much respect for him.”
Paul continued, “I want Mike to stay healthy and he still says he’s going to knock me out and buy me some time,” he added with a laugh, “so Mike’s still out there cussing.”
Paul later added: “You’re always going to be ready. This is a huge opportunity. This fight is going to change the world.”
In addition to the ulcers, Tyson had suffered from sciatica for many years, which would sometimes worsen.
Tyson, who turns 58 on June 30, insists he will be healthy for the fight although he “doesn’t need to be” to beat Paul, posting on the X website earlier this week that he is “100% fit right now.”
