Jake Paul's match with 'worthless piece' Tank Davis called off due to assault claims

The bout between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis for the WBA lightweight title has been called off due to Davis facing more legal troubles.

Recently, a civil lawsuit in Miami accused Davis of assaulting his ex-girlfriend at a strip club where she was employed and of making threats to kill her via written messages.

Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, announced the fight’s cancellation late Monday. However, Paul intends to face another opponent before the year concludes.

In reaction to the fight being scrapped, Paul referred to Davis as “actual walking human trash,” expressing frustration over the situation. He criticized working with Davis as “an absolute nightmare,” citing unprofessionalism and numerous legal issues. Paul stated he didn’t want to provide a platform for someone he described as an “abuser of women” and expressed regret for the impact on those who trained for the event.

Paul added that he hopes fans look beyond Davis’s public persona and find deeper qualities to appreciate instead.

Most Valuable Promotions CEO Nakisa Bidalian said they have been working with all parties involved to handle the situation responsibly. Despite the fight’s cancellation, they plan for Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025, with further details to be shared later.

Davis’s ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossell, claimed he assaulted her in various locations within the club, alleging multiple instances of violence during their five-month relationship. She expressed feeling unsafe and suffering from PTSD and anxiety.

Earlier this year, Davis was arrested for allegedly assaulting the mother of his children and had previously received house arrest for a hit-and-run incident. He has faced several other assault charges against women, including one just before a previous fight.
