BYU Quarterback Jake Retzlaff Responds to Sexual Assault Allegations
Jake Retzlaff, a 22-year-old quarterback for BYU, has denied allegations of sexually assaulting a woman earlier in 2023, based on recent court documents. He faces a lawsuit filed in Utah last month which claims he caused battery, assault, and intentional emotional distress following incidents in his apartment in November 2023.
No criminal charges have been brought against Retzlaff.
The woman involved, referred to as Jane Doe AG, asserts she met the football player through social media and later visited his apartment for a video game session. According to her complaint, things escalated after they began kissing, and she claims Retzlaff continued even after she asked him to stop.
She alleges that he forcibly assaulted her as she was attempting to leave, an accusation that includes him preventing her movement by placing a hand on her neck.
Recently, Retzlaff filed a response denying these claims, stating that their encounter was consensual.
In a statement, Retzlaff’s lawyer firmly rejected the allegations, describing them as “ridiculous” and “false.” The lawyer emphasized that Retzlaff had never engaged in conduct as alleged by the woman. They also alleged that the woman, despite having not contacted them for over a year, is now making these claims as Retzlaff prepares for the NFL Draft.
Retzlaff transitioned from California to Utah to play for BYU, where he helped lead the Cougars to an impressive 11-2 season last year.
