Jake Tapper calls out Kamala Harris for dodging in debate answers: ‘That wasn’t the question’

CNN host Jake Tapper harshly criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for not answering a direct question during Tuesday's presidential debate on ABC.

Tapper said Wednesday that Harris hadn't been very forthcoming about policy and “deferred the first question about the economy” at the start of the debate.

“It continued from there,” Tapper said after playing a video of Harris' responses. “Despite the economy being the biggest issue facing the country, the sitting vice president generally retreated to talking about some of her policy proposals. Even Harris' allies say she needs to say more about what she'll do for Americans if elected.”

The moderator then raised another big question. She avoided answering. “She also fled the border,” he said.

When asked why she has managed the crisis better than President Biden, Harris began by saying, “I am the only person on this stage who has prosecuted international criminal organizations for gun, drug and human trafficking.”

“Okay, that wasn't a question,” Tapper said of her remarks.

“When asked how she would break the stalemate in the war between Israel and Hamas, Harris responded,” he continued, sharing the video.

“We need a ceasefire and we need the hostages released, and that's why we'll continue to work day and night,” Harry said.

“Okay, but how?” Tupper asked.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment, and Tapper, a fierce critic of former President Trump, cautioned that he was not “equating” the two candidates.

“While I in no way mean to equate their performances last night, it is also true that neither Trump nor Harris were able to honestly answer questions about how they would specifically run the country,” he said.

ABC has come under fire for the way it ran the presidential debate, with many alleging that the hosts went easy on Harris while going all out against Trump.

Tapper co-moderated CNN's presidential debate between Trump and Biden in June, and Biden's poor performance that night directly led to his party leaders removing him from the running in July.
