Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton’s WWE narrative has unfolded in the NBA Playoffs.

Everything is Wrestling

If you know me, then you’re probably aware of my firm belief: everything can be linked back to professional wrestling. Seriously, wherever life takes you, there’s usually some wrestling storyline or memorable line that perfectly captures the essence of the situation. I like to call it “Redneck Anime,” and, much like anime, it holds deep truths about our experiences.

Let’s rewind to June 28, 2024, a night at Madison Square Garden for SmackDown. So, Paul brought along a friend, Ty Halliburton, who’s a security guard for the Indiana Pacers. Halliburton? He’s a huge wrestling fan—has even showed up on NXT a few times, gaining some viral fame back in 2023 when he freaked out over Booker T and Queen Sharmel. So, there they were, making their way to the ring, fully embracing that wrestling energy. While they’re walking through the crowd, they bump into New York Knicks guard Jalen Branson, who decided to stop Halliburton in his tracks.

Branson, being a local hero, lent a hand to keep Halliburton and Paul from getting too carried away with the whole steel chairs thing aimed at La Knight. He even mentioned how an injury to his hand, interestingly enough, got better through all this excitement.

Fast forward almost a year later, and these two are set to face off for a shot at their first NBA Finals. Now, that’s what I’d call “long-term story arcs.” This isn’t just play; it feels like a movie. The two teams have danced around each other since last year’s playoffs when the Pacers eliminated the Knicks in six games during the second round. And here we go again, with the stakes sky-high this time.

In this scenario, Halliburton is definitely taking on a heel role. He was named the most overrated player by his peers, shed a few tears, and significantly influenced the Pacers’ wins over teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s trying to pick up the legacy of Pacers legend Reggie Miller, testing the patience of Knicks fans along the way.

“myself?”

– One year ago, Tyrese Haliburton called out the Knicks in Game 7, throwing them right in the trash, and this day marks that one-year anniversary.

Branson has evolved from being another player in Dallas to becoming a clutch superstar, the one who brought New York basketball back to life. He’s also somehow the villain for Boston Celtics fans.

The beauty of this matchup in the Eastern Conference Finals shows that more players should be exploring opportunities in WWE. With all these long-term narratives returning, NBA players like Branson and Halliburton are riding that wave. Knicks’ Josh Hart really hit the nail on the head:

“WWE is writing great scripts. There are probably a lot of people wanting to join WWE this summer.”

Before the Pacers and Knicks tip-off, they’ll need to catch up on the storylines. What’s better than cranking up the volume on Bizkit’s “My Way”? It’s the anthem behind one of the most iconic wrestling moments ever, The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 17.

You don’t have to root for either team to feel the adrenaline. Let’s get this show on the road.
