Even the biggest names in the city look up to Jalen Brunson.
During the Mets’ victory over the Reds on Wednesday, Juan Soto paid homage to Brunson in his usual celebration.
The following day, Brunson hadn’t yet seen the tribute. However, when he learned about it, he expressed his gratitude for the gesture.
“It’s pretty wild to see,” Brunson commented after practice on Thursday. “Surely.”
After the game, Soto was asked about his tribute. “We’ve got to keep supporting the Knicks,” he said. “Let’s go to the Knicks.”
Mike Brown’s wife had a moment of awe. Throughout his first season, Brown had connected with several notable Knicks fans, but he hadn’t met Ben Stiller yet.
Interestingly, his wife, Carolyn, is a huge fan. “Ben Stiller was over there,” Brown shared on Thursday. “I’ve never met him, but she was like, ‘Ben’s over there.’ I suggested, ‘Let’s go take a picture.’ But she just couldn’t bring herself to do it.”
Shortly after, Stiller reacted to Brown’s comments on social media. “You’re welcome to take a photo with any of Mike Brown’s immediate family, relatives, or friends anytime,” he tweeted. “This guy took us to the finals. It’s his first year.”
There’s one famous person Brown has befriended. “I actually got to know Fat Joe a little,” he remarked. “He used to tease me about my shoes, saying I should get Nikes because they have better cushioning. He even took a picture with my son-in-law, who was really excited. I’ve always admired him, but he’s the only one I’ve gotten close to.”
Brunson was part of the Knicks when they last made it to the Finals in 1999, thanks to his father, Rick, who was a bench player on that team and is now an assistant coach.
However, he’s not ready to discuss what it would mean to help the Knicks return to the Finals for his family. “That’s a question I’d like to answer later,” Brunson said.
