Jalen Brunson Ready for Knicks Season After Wrist Surgery
At the Knicks Media Day on Monday, Jalen Brunson appeared without any casts or braces on his left wrist, signaling he’s ready to jump back into action.
The team captain underwent surgery on his wrist over the offseason to fix a tendon issue. Interestingly, he played through the pain during the playoffs, even taking home the Finals MVP award.
“It was painful, but I clearly could play through it,” Brunson expressed during the media session. “I did what I had to do every single day just to make sure I was right.”
Initially, Brunson didn’t grasp the full extent of his injury, opting to delay surgery until early July instead of addressing it right after leading the Knicks to an NBA championship in June. Consequently, he spent a large part of the summer in a cast.
“I didn’t think I necessarily needed surgery, so maybe if I had realized how serious it was, I would’ve acted sooner,” he reflected. “I just played through it, didn’t think much of it, and now I feel good. We’ll see what happens moving forward.”
During a recent episode of “Roommates Show with Jalen Brunson & Josh Hart,” Brunson stated that he is “fully cleared” for training camp, set to start this week.
In a conversation with media last month, Brunson shared his thoughts on the injury and his resolve to play despite it. “I just knew that opportunities like this are rare,” he mentioned. “I wasn’t going to let what seemed like a minor issue keep me sidelined. I just needed to deal with it later.”
As someone known for working tirelessly in the gym, Brunson’s injury undoubtedly disrupted his usual offseason routine. “It’s reminded me a lot about patience, for sure,” he noted.
