Jalen Brunson’s foul woes don’t stop Knicks from impressive rout of Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS – Behind Karl Anthony Towns and Josh Hart, the Knicks not only survived Jalen Branson's long-term stay on the bench, but also thrived.

Adversity hit early in the second half against the Pacers on Tuesday night.

The point guard had a nine-point lead, with about nine minutes left in a third. He came back with 5.5 minutes left and the Knicks led the 16.

In a 128-115 blowout victory, Branson only needed eight points in the 23rd minute.

So how did the Knicks build on the benefits in a few minutes of Bransonless? A ton of hearts from dropping a season-high 30 points and earning one wrecking ball in transition and on the rim. They also received strong bench plays from Miles McBride and Cam Payne.

Meanwhile, the town owned the first half, finishing with 40 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

The Knicks (35-18) were away from one of the more discouraging efforts of the season. This felt like a charge of candidate status when he bumped into the Celtics' hands on Saturday.

The Pacers (29-23) were not the Celtics, but they were a horrifying test.

Not only were they surprised behind rejuvenating Tailese Halliburton, they were also responsible for eliminating the Knicks in the conference semi-finals last season.

And like many of that series, OG Anunoby was unavailable Tuesday night due to injuries. As a result, Precious Achiuwa was launched again with Power Forward, adding 9 points with 12 rebounds. McBride led the bench with 15 points, including a 4-4 over the arc.

The Pacers didn't have injured center Miles Turner, but they were healthier than their final matchup at Gainbridge Field House in November. Indiana won it. In fact, the Knicks entered the match on Tuesday with a five-game winning streak at Indiana.

For the Knicks in the conference finals it was a terrifying home with the defeat of the Mother's Day Massacre and the miraculous tray of Andrew Nenbarth in Game 3.

However, on Tuesday, the Knicks were solid from the tip-off.

The first half was a masterpiece of town. In the second quarter, he packed Indiana's Thomas Bryant and continued his fake behind the scenes pass that was completely cheating on Halliburton before moving on for assist and feeding Hart.

Town has 24 points, four rebounds and three assists at halftime, with the Knicks enjoying a 68-60 advantage. That lead only grew when their best player, Branson, went out with foul trouble.
