Jalen Hurts gets record $255 million contract from Eagles

Consider the quarterback market reset.

The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a significant contract extension for star quarterback Jalen Hurts Monday morning, giving him a new five-year deal and a whopping $255 million contract, according to multiple reports. He averaged the highest paid player in NFL history. $51 million a year.

The deal includes a $179.3 million guarantee and a no-deal clause.

Hurts, 24, had a dominant season with the Eagles in 2022 and helped lead Philadelphia to the Super Bowl.

The NFC Pro Bowler passed for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in the regular season, adding 760 yards rushing and 13 TDs on the ground.

General manager Howie Roseman has signed the fourth-year quarterback to a deal that will keep him in Philadelphia through 2028.

A new deal on the books has officially set the market for fellow star quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert in the 2020 draft class set for an extension this offseason.

Additionally, $179.3 million guaranteed could be something Lamar Jackson also seeks when looking for a new contract.
