Jamal Adams, a former defensive back for the Jets, has landed a new team in the NFL.
The three-time Pro Bowl safety is back with coach Pete Carroll, formerly of the Raiders and currently heading up the Seahawks, as announced by the team on Tuesday.
Adams played under Carroll for four years after being traded to the Seahawks in 2020.
His career, which began with the Jets in 2017, took some twists and turns. He was the sixth overall pick in that year’s draft.
During his time in New York, Adams was key to the team’s defense, even earning an All-Pro selection in 2019 with 273 tackles, 12 sacks, and two interceptions over three seasons.
However, the 2019 offseason saw Adams pushing for a contract extension that the Jets were reluctant to give. He grew frustrated, criticizing the team’s management at various levels.
In reflecting on his time with the Jets, Adams admitted last year that he hadn’t left in the best manner. He noted, “I didn’t realize I hurt that way. The older I got, I noticed I had it all, but it just didn’t work for me.”
Eventually, in July 2020, the Jets traded Adams to the Seahawks in exchange for two first-round draft picks.
Unfortunately, his time in Seattle was marred by injuries, as Adams never played more than 12 games in a season there.
Things took a downturn in 2022 when he sustained a quadricep injury during the first game of the season, sidelining him for the remainder of the year.
After another season, Adams was released by the Seahawks in March 2024.
In the previous year, he played briefly with the Titans and Lions, participating in a total of five games.
Now in Las Vegas, Adams is reunited with Carroll, as the Raiders have lost Marcus Epps to the Patriots and Trevon Moehrig to the Panthers in free agency.
