Jamal Adams Out for the Season with Knee Injury
Jamal Adams has sustained a right knee injury that will sideline him for the entire season, a tough blow for his attempt to revitalize his career with the Vikings, multiple sources report.
Following the Vikings’ game against the Giants, head coach Kevin O’Connell described the injury situation as “not good,” leading the team to confront what could be a worst-case scenario for their defense, where he had been playing both safety and linebacker roles.
The injury took place early in the second quarter. While covering Calvin Austin III, Adams fell awkwardly as Jackson Dart threw a touchdown pass to Malachi Fields.
Adams, previously a safety for the Jets and a three-time Pro Bowler, had recorded a tackle for loss earlier in the first quarter before being carted off to the locker room.
In a halftime interview, O’Connell expressed, “Jamal has done an unbelievable job to be here in such a short amount of time. I feel his passion every day, especially when I spent a few moments with him before he was taken off the field.”
He continued with a sense of sadness, “You’re just devastated for him. He found a way to carve out a unique path for himself, and the character, experience, and toughness he brought to the table in such a limited time—he’s going to be missed.”
This latest injury is just another setback for Adams, who was limited to only five games last season while playing for both the Raiders and Titans, and managed just ten games in the two seasons before that with Seattle.
He had signed with Minnesota just before training camp, eager to contribute in either position, and had expressed readiness to play anywhere needed.
Now, with this injury, Adams faces another lengthy wait for his chance in the NFL, while the Vikings’ defense, directed by Brian Flores, must adapt to his absence.
