Ja’Marr Chase makes cryptic comment after Bengals’ Week 1 mess
After the Bengals' shocking loss at home to the Patriots in the season opener, coach Ja'Marr Chase didn't have all the answers.
Chase caught six balls for 62 yards with no other targets and New England beat Cincinnati 16-10 on Sunday.
After the game, Chase twice deferred questions about the team's game plan, saying only, “Ask Zac,” referring to head coach Zac Taylor.

This marks the third consecutive year the Bengals have lost their season opener, this time against the rebuilding Patriots, considered by many to be one of the worst teams in the league.
“That's how it always starts the first game of the year. I expect I'll be better by now,” Chase said.
When asked a follow-up question about what the Bengals need to change going into their season opener, Chase was quick to respond about winning the turnover battle.
Chase did not participate in preseason practices with the Bengals because he was seeking a new contract.

A new contract has yet to be announced, but Chase is comfortable playing in Week 1, suggesting an extension is imminent between the two sides.
After the game, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow disputed the notion that Chase's absence from practice negatively affected the team's performance against the Patriots.
“No, I don't think that's accurate,” Barrow said. PFT reports.
Burrow completed 21 of 29 attempts for 164 yards (just 5.7 yards per attempt) with no touchdown passes and no interceptions in the loss.
The Bengals were without wide receiver Tee Higgins, who worked with Chase to create mismatches for opposing defenses, due to a hamstring injury suffered Sunday.

Things aren't going to get any easier for the Bengals from here, as they travel to Kansas City to take on the defending champion Chiefs on Sunday afternoon in Week 2.
