Winston’s First Start as Giants QB

Jameis Winston, the backup quarterback for the Giants, embraced his wife, Breion, on the sidelines prior to his first start of the 2025 season against the Packers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Breion shared a heartwarming video of the moment on Instagram in a post with Fox Sports.

Having been high school sweethearts, Winston and Breion tied the knot in 2020.

While the couple’s two kids, Antonor Malachi and Taurus Allen, weren’t in the video, their presence is undoubtedly felt during significant family moments like this.

The 31-year-old was selected to start in Week 11, stepping in for Russell Wilson due to Jackson Dart being in concussion protocol.

This marked Mike Kafka’s first major decision as the interim head coach after the Giants dismissed Brian Daboll following a disappointing start to the season, with a record of 2-8.

Kafka had spent nearly four years working with Daboll as both the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

After his initial practice as the starting quarterback, Winston expressed a sense of accomplishment: “We finally made it, huh? We finally succeeded.”

Kafka, visibly confident in his choice, commended Winston’s leadership abilities. “Jameis has done a great job since he’s been here,” he noted. “I believe he will excel in this role. He’s a strong leader with substantial experience in this league.”

Wilson was not in the game as the Giants struggled early in the season with an 0-3 start.

As the third quarter progressed, the Giants were trailing the Packers 19-13, and Winston had successfully completed 8 of 11 passes for 86 yards. Meanwhile, running back Devin Singletary contributed two touchdowns for the team, rushing successfully from both 5 and 2 yards out.

As the team moves forward, Kafka has the entire season ahead of him to demonstrate his suitability for the head coach position.
