Cleveland Browns Rookie Shedeur Sanders Impresses in Preseason Debut
The football community was abuzz after Shedeur Sanders made his preseason debut for the Cleveland Browns on Friday night. It was a moment that caught the attention of fans, including actor and musician Jamie Foxx, who had some strong feelings about the young quarterback.
Foxx, known for his role as “Steamin’ Willie Beamen” in “Any Given Sunday,” didn’t hold back. He shared a video on social media, describing Sanders’ performance against the Carolina Panthers, where he racked up 138 yards and two touchdowns. It seemed to Foxx like Sanders was really making his mark.
“I hear what everyone is saying. My name is Willie—Willie Beamen!” he emphasized passionately in the clip. “If you hate Shedeur, you hate football. Why not appreciate this incredible story? Deion Sanders is a legend.” Foxx concluded by praising Deion, referring to him as a Hall of Fame father who supported his son’s debut.
“Yes, law! Yes! @shedeursanders,” Coach Prime tweeted, expressing pride in his son’s performance as he completed 14 of 23 passes. It was a solid start to his NFL journey.
“God is so good!” Elder Sanders added on social media following the game.
In a post-game chat, Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski mentioned that the team would be giving the Philadelphia Eagles more reps next week for their next preseason game. Shedeur’s starting opportunity seems to stem partly from injuries affecting both Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, placing 40-year-old Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback while the team adjusts to limited personnel in training camp.
Interestingly, after the game, Shedeur expressed a sense of dissatisfaction with his own performance, noting there were areas he could improve. However, many fans and analysts seem to view his debut favorably, with heaps of praise circulating in the wake of his promising start. There’s definitely a buzz around his future in the league, even if he himself isn’t entirely satisfied yet.
