In a recently released video, Jamie Komorowski’s father called the jail to express his frustrations about his daughter being incarcerated for a “long time.” This followed a tragic incident where, while intoxicated, she hit her new wife on their wedding day.
Komorowski, who was 25 at the time, was seen crying during the phone conversation with her father, Charles. This happened in May 2023, a month after the incident in Folly Beach, South Carolina, which resulted in the death of her wife, Samantha Hutchinson, 34, and left her husband, Aric, injured.
“I still don’t understand why this had to happen to me,” Komorowski lamented in the video call, as noted by various sources.
“Bad things happen to good people, honey,” her father responded, showing sympathy but not directly referencing the reason for her arrest.
He then assured her, “It happened to you, and we’re going to deal with it the best we can, it’s okay.”
During the call, Komorowski also expressed her own feelings of victimhood, asking her father, “Why me, dad, why me?”
She later expressed worries about the media’s involvement and the potential backlash she might face after her release. “It’s scary that the media is so involved. Why are they so involved?” she questioned.
Charles responded by arguing that her case was just something for the media “to sell newspapers.” However, Komorowski continued to express her concerns, saying, “But that doesn’t save me. I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ When I leave the house, it’s really bad. People are so mean to me.”
As her father continued to comfort her, Komorowski cried and shared her fears, saying, “I’m just scared, Dad. I don’t want to be away for too long.” He reassured her, saying, “We’re doing everything we can.”
In December 2024, Komorowski was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including DUI causing serious injury and reckless homicide.
At the time of the crash, she was driving a Toyota rental car at 105 mph when she collided with a golf cart carrying the newlyweds. Samantha was tragically thrown from the cart and died at the scene, while Aric sustained facial injuries and was hospitalized.
Following her arrest, Komorowski was uncooperative with officers at the scene and claimed that she wished to contact her father. “I just want to get this over with and go home,” she told one police officer.
Despite being suspected of DUI, she refused to give a breath sample. Tests later revealed her blood alcohol content was 0.261%, which is over three times the legal limit of 0.08 in South Carolina.
