Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said Wednesday during a House Oversight Committee hearing on former President Trump's hotels and the Constitution's bonus clause that Democrats revealed the former president received compensation. After that, he sparred with Congressman Byron Donald (R-Florida). While in the White House, millions of dollars are transferred from foreign entities.
“Hotels are no exception., Mr. Donald, please agree to the foreign compensation clause,'' Mr. Raskin said. “There is no international real estate syndicate exception to the foreign compensation clause, Mr. Donald.”
Democrats on the Oversight Committee released a report last week saying Trump received at least $7.8 million in payments for his business from foreign corporations in 20 countries, a violation of the Constitution that prohibits accepting funding from foreign governments. It is said that this may violate the Constitution, which prohibits it.
The bulk of the payments, about $5.6 million, came from China and were sent to Trump's hotels in Washington and Las Vegas, as well as Trump Tower in New York, the report said.
A hearing focused on Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings pitted Democrats and Republicans against each other, with lawmakers bickering over the details of the report. Democrats argued that Republicans were interested in the president's son's foreign business dealings but were turning a blind eye to President Trump's business dealings.
Raskin said he would take up Donald's challenge to find out whether Trump's hotels “actually do the same level of business” from Saudi Arabia, China, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, India and Egypt. Ta.
As Donald was leaving the hearing, the Maryland Democratic lawmaker told Donald that if he could “get the chair to lift the ban on further documents,” he would be able to “comparatively… I'll see,'' he said.
Raskin said in an interview Friday that the report covers only two of Trump's four years in office, relates to only four of Trump's more than 500 businesses, and cannot be investigated. It warned that the number was likely higher than the number found in the report. 20 countries.
Mr. Donald fired back at Mr. Raskin, asking him if he had ever stayed at Mr. Trump's hotel.
“No, I would never stay in a Trump hotel,” Raskin replied. “I have too much self-esteem and am very careful about hygiene.”
Mr. Hill has contacted the Oversight Committee, Mr. Raskin and Mr. Donald's office for further comment on the conflict.
