Jane Lynch discusses the ‘Glee’ reunion on ‘Celeb Weakest Link’

Sue Sylvester Returns

Jane Lynch is back in action. She recently reunited with several former co-stars at the premiere of “Celebrity’s Weakest Link,” set to air this Monday on Fox at 9 PM. “I was excited. I put on my tracksuit again,” she shared, referencing the iconic outfit of her character, Sue Sylvester, from “Glee.” It’s funny to think about how those clothes brought us all back together.

Lynch, 65, previously hosted a revival of “Weakest Link” on NBC from 2020 to 2024, and now she’s taking on the celebrity version for Fox. The reunion episode of “Glee,” which aired on September 15, featured familiar faces like Code Over Street, Becka Tobin, Heather Morris, Dot Marie Jones, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley, Max Adler, and Alex Newell. They all starred in the beloved musical series, which had over 100 episodes from 2009 to 2015.

Reflecting on the reunion, Lynch expressed surprise at how well Overstreet and Morris performed, calling it ironic since their characters weren’t exactly the brightest on the show. “I think I probably protected them,” she remarked. “They surprised me. They were amazing.” It’s nice to see how much growth they’ve had since those days.

Lynch mentioned that she stays in touch with a few of her former co-stars, particularly Morris and Tobin. She mentioned that Morrison wasn’t available due to being on tour, but she still considers him a good friend.

The “Glee” cast has taken varied paths since the show ended. Tragically, Cory Monteith passed away at 31 during production in 2013. Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, and Darren Criss have all become notable figures on Broadway. Morrison has taken on roles like judging on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

When asked about her co-stars’ different journeys, Lynch said, “I mean, talent always rises to the top… Becca has a great podcast. Lea is doing fantastic. Darren has just soared. Talent wins, I think.” It really is interesting to observe how different careers can unfold.

Lynch also appeared in her role as Sazupataki until her character met a grim end in season three. She reminisced about Steve Martin, calling him “the nicest man in the world,” adding that he and Martin Short are just delightful people. “It’s lovely to share a meal with him,” she said, highlighting their early friendship.

In an upcoming episode of “Celebrity’s Weakest Link,” she mentioned being impressed by actress Monica Potter, who, despite not being widely connected in the industry, made a strong impression on her. Yet, the star admitted that hosting a game show comes with its own persona. “I act like I love it, but inside, I don’t feel great about sending people home,” she admitted. Still, she believes that everyone shares a sense of fun about the experience. “No one takes it personally,” she added, which is refreshing to hear.
