Jannik Sinner topples Daniil Medvedev to reach US Open semifinals

Consider Wednesday night a reminder.

That's right, the talk of the US Open this year was American men.

Two of them, Francis Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, are battling for a place in Friday's final, trying to end the country's 21-year streak without a Grand Slam winner.

But the No. 1 seed is still in the running and he looks to be the favorite to win.

Jannik Sinner arrived in Queens mired in a performance-enhancing drugs scandal.

It doesn't get in the way on the court.

He dropped the first set he played at the Open and has dropped just one since, reaching the semifinals with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over 2021 U.S. Open champion and fifth seed Daniil Medvedev at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Any Americans who survive Friday will likely have to take down Sinner on Sunday.

Sinner will face No. 25 Jack Draper in the other semifinal.
