Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev prediction: US Open odds, picks

The two best players remaining in the men's singles at the 2024 U.S. Open will face off on Wednesday night.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, seeking his second career Grand Slam title and first U.S. Open victory, is a -300 favorite over 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev.

Both players are coming off dominant wins in the round of 16 and have only lost one set en route to the quarterfinals, meaning Wednesday's match should be a box office hit.

Let's take a closer look at the matches and make our selection.

Sinner vs Medvedev predictions

Sinner went into the 2024 U.S. Open as one of the favourites to win, but has been under intense scrutiny since news broke in March that he had tested positive for a banned substance.

The 2024 Australian Open champion was cleared by the umpire but the incident still shocked the sporting world and put even more pressure on the Italian player.

Then things looked like they were about to get even more dramatic when Sinner lost the first set to Mackenzie McDonald in the first round.

But Sinner bounced back to win 12 straight sets, including eight by at least four games.

Medvedev also dropped a set in the first round but has been largely unchallenged at the tournament since, with the Russian winning 10 of 12 sets by at least three games.

Medvedev also has plenty of positive experience to draw on in this situation: Not only does he have a U.S. Open trophy to his name, he has also reached the semifinals in four of his past five trips to Queens.

There are some stylistic tidbits the Russian could take note of in this match: Like Sinner, Medvedev is an elite defender with world-class court coverage.

Sinner hits the ball with force, but Medvedev is one of the few players on the planet who can match his power and defensive ability.

Sinner is a great player, but Medvedev has been going toe-to-toe with him over the past two weeks and should be able to answer some of the tough questions from the world number one.

This should be a tough fight, and one that will be worth it for Medvedev, who has no problem battling late into the night in New York to get the job done.
