“Your life is going to be great. Theirs is going to be great, I promise.” This is a message to the children of some of the January 6 defendants who are languishing in prison. Those were the words of Donald Trump.
As we anticipate January 20th, which will mean mandatory pardons and possible pardons for those wronged in connection with January 6th, we hope this pain will end with a presidential pardon. We must recognize that this is not the case. They may provide some relief, but nothing can undo the suffering these defendants and their families have endured over the past four years.
We cannot ignore the unjust imprisonment and legal battles faced by President Trump, his supporters, and everyday Americans who traveled to Washington, D.C., to show their admiration for a president they deeply respect.
Americans need to understand the gravity of the campaign against President Trump and his supporters and his relentless targeting of those who share his views.
In early 2021, shortly after the events of January 6, the FBI violently raided the homes of Trump supporters before dawn. These raids, orchestrated by the Biden administration, were a show of force by the Justice Department. The scene was alarming. The women were held at gunpoint and the children woke up in their bedrooms to the sounds of doors being broken down and flash-bang bombs exploding.
One particularly horrifying incident involved a family whose home was brutally raided with a flashbang and their bathroom set on fire. The family was forced to crawl across the floor to escape as smoke filled the house. While amnesty may provide some comfort to those affected, it cannot undo the trauma inflicted on families by the terrible experience or erase the lasting scars.

The politically charged and violent acts committed against the former president and his supporters should alarm all Americans, regardless of their political views. Targeting a former president for politically motivated actions is unacceptable and undermines principles of justice. Over the past four years, we have watched President Trump, his family, and supporters endure relentless legal battles. As the nation's only voice, President Trump has defended Americans who were wrongfully imprisoned in connection with the events of January 6th.
A particularly moving moment was when one of us brought the children of the January 6th defendant to meet with President Trump. His sense of security was profound as he told his children, “It's okay, they're going to have a great life.'' He expressed his unwavering determination to “free the hostages of January 6th.” Few people understand political persecution as deeply as President Trump, and despite his own suffering, he has expressed empathy for these families, prioritized their well-being, and vowed to fight for them. .
The Trump Justice Department and Congress must conduct a thorough investigation into the illegal detention of nonviolent protesters on January 6th. Many of these people were denied bail and treated unfairly because they had no criminal record. Americans need to understand the gravity of the campaign against President Trump and his supporters and his relentless targeting of those who share his views.
It's true that some people crossed the line on January 6th, but they don't represent the majority. While violence against law enforcement is unacceptable, it is equally important to recognize that the actions of a few unfairly stigmatize entire groups. We live in a country that values freedom of speech, expression, and religion. However, many of the defendants in the January 6th incident were wrongfully prosecuted, tried, and convicted based solely on their beliefs, jokes, and even books they read. This undermines the very freedoms that define our nation.
The Biden Justice Department appears to be ignoring core American principles. The United States is a country that values freedom, and no individual should be imprisoned for their political beliefs. The tyranny shown since President Trump's election victory in 2016 cannot be ignored. For too long, our country has operated under a two-tiered justice system, and this must end. Neither former presidents nor current presidents nor their supporters should ever have to endure the long, politically driven legal battles we have witnessed.
As we approach the holiday season, please keep the defendants of January 6th and their families in your thoughts and prayers. In particular, let us remember the many children who will spend this time apart from their mothers and fathers.
When Donald Trump takes the oath of office on January 20, many Americans will see his words as a new source of hope. That moment won't come soon enough.
