The Lions are keeping Jared Goff at Motown.
The quarterback agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $212 million with $170 million guaranteed, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said. reported on Monday.
Goff, 29, was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season.
As with all blockbuster NFL contracts, only time will tell how much is guaranteed vs. fully guaranteed against injury.
The Lions won the NFC North last season with a 12-5 record and advanced to the NFC Championship Game, but lost 34-31 to the 49ers.
Goff was acquired by the Lions from the Rams during the 2021 offseason in a deal that sent Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles in exchange for Detroit, as well as two first-round picks and a third-round pick.
Goff completed 67.3 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
He threw for 7.6 yards per attempt.
The quarterback has appeared in the Pro Bowl three times during his eight-year NFL career.
He has become a fan favorite in Detroit, and was seen during the NFL Draft in the city late last month, where thousands of supporters chanted his name.
Goff is engaged to Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kristen Harper.
This is the Lions’ third splashy extension this offseason.
In April, the team gave star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown $120 million over four years ($77 million guaranteed), offensive tackle Penei Sewell and $112 million ($85 million guaranteed). They also agreed to a new four-year contract with a considerable amount (guaranteed).
