Jared Moskowitz signals openness to future governor bid in Florida

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida) hinted Sunday that he may run for Florida governor in 2026.

“We’ve got to see what the data looks like. We’ve got to see what the election is going to be between Biden and Trump and what the data is going to be,” Moskowitz said on MSNBC’s “The Weekend.” ”, he said when asked directly if he intended to run for governor in 2026.

Moskowitz, who served as emergency management director under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, highlighted his experience working under a Republican governor as a Democrat.

“So Democrats have a big choice. Republicans outnumber us by a million votes, and if Democrats really want to have a chance of winning, they have to appeal to independents and even some Republicans.” “You’re going to need a Democrat who can do it. I worked for Republicans there, right?”

“So, you know, I would know how to do it. But we’re far apart,” he continued.

Moskowitz told Politico. Earlier this month, he mentioned the possibility that a gubernatorial election could be held in 2026, saying, “We haven’t ruled out the possibility,” adding, “We’re considering it, but it’s very early.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is ineligible to run for a third term due to the state’s term limits, creating a vacancy in a state that has recently turned red.
