Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Prepares for New Chapter with the Jets

Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was quite surprised when the Titans traded him to the Jets in late September.

Now, he’s eager to show how much they’ll miss him.

“I think I’m always carrying a chip on my shoulder,” Brownlee shared after practice on Friday. “This just adds more motivation for me to prove what they’re missing out on. But more than that, I want to show my coach and the Jets organization that they made the right choice in bringing me here.”

“I’m ready to give it my all. There’s definitely something special brewing here. I have faith in the process, and I believe in what Coach Aaron Glenn is building. So yeah, I’m ready to roll,” he added enthusiastically.

The newly acquired Jets defensive back might make his debut against the Cowboys this Sunday after a solid week of practice.

His ankle injuries from Monday night seem to have healed nicely.

Previously, Brownlee played as a slot cornerback, while he mostly covered outside for the Titans. His versatility is a big reason why the Jets were interested in him.

He might see the field more on Sunday, especially since starter Michael Carter II is out with a concussion.

“For me, it just enhances my game. I see myself as an offensive player too,” he noted. “When I’m in the box, it’s like having an extra linebacker on the field. If I’m inside, I’m totally fired up to go.”

“Last year, I didn’t play much in the nickel spots, but I did a lot of that in college, so I’m looking forward to it. Metlife is going to get a show,” he promised.

Brownlee is also recognized for being an outstanding tackler, which could be invaluable for the Jets.

During his time at Louisville last year, he started 16 games for the Titans, managing a solid 77.7 Pro Football Focus run defense grade, putting him among the top 10 cornerbacks eligible. He was third on the team with 75 tackles, along with nine passes defended and seven tackles for loss.

With a remarkable 83.5 run defense grade, he ranked in the top five for the season.

He even holds the highest running stop rating of any qualified cornerback this year.

“I think it’s a mindset. Not everyone goes into a game with my level of intensity,” he explained. “I want to make my presence felt. I’m going to cover you, hit you, and let you know I’m around, no matter what it takes. I’m all about attacking.”

In short, he loves the physical aspect of the game.

His passion for sports started in childhood, playing both running back and cornerback, but he shifted his focus to defense in high school.

“You probably have to be a bit crazy to be a football player, particularly on defense,” Brownlee, 24, said, laughing. “I put myself in situations where I need to hit… Sure, I might not weigh a lot, but I come in with bad intentions and put in a lot of effort.”

The trade was an emotional moment for Brownlee.

He played through a back injury in his first week, feeling he gave the Titans everything he had.

When his agent delivered the news on his day off, he was caught completely off guard and ended up shedding tears during a walk.

Putting that behind him, he’s now focused on energizing the Jets.

“I can make a significant impact,” he stated. “I’m recognized as a top corner for stopping the run, and we’re going to emphasize the need for consistency. We’ve got to work hard.”

Brownlee added, “I bring energy to the field, and that’s vital for our team moving forward.”
