Jasmine Crockett Considers Senate Run

Texas Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett discussed her potential candidacy for the Senate during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Lurie Daniel Favors Show” Wednesday. She mentioned that current polls indicate she could be a leading candidate in the Texas Democratic primary, saying she would “strongly consider” making the leap.

When asked about the impacts of redistricting on her campaign, Crockett expressed uncertainty about where she might run. She and her team are waiting on a court decision regarding the enforcement of new district boundaries, which could lead her to shift districts depending on the outcome. She remarked, “If they take away my 766,000 seat, there has to be some karma when I go for my 30 million seat.”

“A primary is a primary, which is good,” she continued, “but in the end, you have to win. We’ll conduct some tests soon to see if we can broaden the district base.”

Crockett is skeptical about traditional polling methods, arguing that they often miss those potential voters who typically don’t participate in elections. She cited examples from past elections, like Barack Obama and Donald Trump, who both inspired new voters. “The trick in Texas is expanding the electorate,” she noted, as she studies polling data to identify demographics she might engage. “If I see a viable path to boost turnout, I’ll seriously think about running for the Senate.”

Recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott approved new congressional maps that lean Republican, claiming five additional U.S. House districts ahead of the competitive 2026 midterms. A Republican-controlled state legislature enacted these changes following prolonged absences by Democratic lawmakers, who had fled the state to contest redistricting votes.

Crockett has made headlines recently, drawing attention for her strong remarks on various issues, including her opinion on political discourse. Last month on CNN’s “The Arena,” she dismissed claims that drawing comparisons between figures like Hitler and contemporary leaders incites violence, suggesting those concerns are misguided.

She further criticized the current state of political freedoms, stating, “When we look at authoritarian tendencies today, they want to control what we say and do, which impacts our personal freedoms.” Her vocal nature extends beyond political discussion; she has also faced backlash for sharp comments aimed at notable figures like Elon Musk and Senator Ted Cruz.
