Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, faced criticism from a former colleague for not including James Talarico, who is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas, on her endorsement list released on Monday.
Talarico had previously defeated Crockett in the Senate primary earlier this year. In her endorsements through her Feuling Individual Rights Everywhere (FIRE) PAC, Crockett supported 14 other candidates, but Talarico was notably absent. Former Rep. Susan Wild from Pennsylvania, who served three terms, expressed her disapproval, suggesting that Crockett’s choices reflect her personal issues rather than a commitment to the party’s success in Texas.
“F— her. That’s really all there is to say. And I’m not saying this out of blind loyalty to Democrats,” Wild stated in a post on X. “It’s about her being a self-centered drama queen who only seems to use her position for her own gain. She’ll get what’s coming to her.”
This controversy adds to a series of disputes surrounding Crockett, a progressive figure who has advocated for her party to take a more left-leaning stance. Her intense rhetoric has attracted national attention during her congressional tenure.
In the past, Crockett has sparked criticism for some of her provocative remarks, such as nicknaming Governor Greg Abbott, who has a disability, as “Governor Hot Wheels,” and making disparaging comments about various political figures. Recently, she also faced backlash for including singer Chris Brown in congressional records, despite his history of violence against women.
Crockett did, however, respond to Wild and others, stating that she had congratulated Talarico personally after his primary victory. “You all are ridiculous! Keep the receipts. I wish people would focus on FACTS rather than sensationalized news. Perhaps, for once, write about something important like KEN F*in PAXTON. It’s just so cliché,” she commented.
Although Crockett lost to Talarico by a slight margin, she endorsed him the day after the election. “I called James this morning and congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee. It’s crucial for Texas to unite—this is bigger than any individual. We need to focus on the future of all Texans and the direction of our country. Now, we must unite as Democrats,” Crockett expressed at the time.
Her PAC, FIRE, has reportedly raised about $144,960 and primarily targets smaller races. Interestingly, none of the local or state candidates Crockett endorsed include Texas gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa.
As of now, representatives for Crockett have not responded to inquiries from media outlets.
