Jasmine Crockett Expresses Concern Over Gun-Toting Fraudster Who 'Somehow' Joined Her Security Team Despite Checks

On Monday, Democratic Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett confirmed that the fugitive who fatally shot Dallas SWAT officers was part of her security team. She described the situation as “alarming,” particularly given that he had been called into that role.

Her office posted a statement on X, indicating that they were awaiting confirmation from local law enforcement regarding Diamond Robinson, also known as Mike King. CBS News initially reported that he was a key member of her security detail. Crockett’s team expressed their “saddened and shocked” reaction to news that Robinson, wanted for allegedly impersonating a police officer, was involved in a standoff at a children’s hospital parking lot that resulted in his death.

“Our team adhered to all necessary protocols for securing additional safety measures,” the statement noted. They were approved to work with this vendor, who also provided services to other organizations in the community and collaborated with local law enforcement, including the Capitol Police.

“The ability of an individual to bypass the vetting process regarding security for Congress highlights serious flaws in our systems. This is particularly concerning for lawmakers who frequently receive significant and credible death threats,” the statement added.

Crockett, reflecting on her experience as a former public defender, wrote on X, “I’ve always believed that people are more than the worst thing they’ve ever done. I think in redemption. The man we knew showed up dedicated to protecting others.”

She continued, stating, “We are still gathering the full story, but today we mourn the lives lost. This tragic incident should have been preventable.”

On Monday, Dallas police shared body camera footage of an interaction between Robinson and a SWAT officer at the Dallas Children’s Medical Center parking lot. In the video, one officer could be heard saying, “He’s got that gun!” while sirens were heard in the background. Another officer voiced a desire for a peaceful resolution, urging Robinson to comply to avoid harm.

As the situation escalated, officers requested Robinson to exit his vehicle, keep his hands up, and refrain from reaching for his firearm. The footage ultimately showed Robinson pointing a gun at officers, leading to the use of deadly force.

Robinson, who had a different identity beyond Mike King, misled many—including law enforcement—into believing he was a police officer and that his private security agency was legitimate, according to sources cited by a Dallas-based ABC affiliate. His clients included banks and hotels, aside from those connected to Crockett.

Members of Crockett’s team stated that Robinson had been part of the security team for “years.” They expressed that they had no reason to doubt his background, emphasizing his professionalism, good relationships, and the respect he demonstrated. “His current situation doesn’t align with the Mike King we knew,” Crockett’s office concluded.

The statement wrapped up with an acknowledgment of the complex feelings surrounding Robinson’s death. “Our hearts grieve not just for his loss but for the good he could have still brought,” they added, and concluded with, “No further statement will be issued.”
