Jason Day heartbroken by ‘hero’ Tiger Woods’ ‘self-centered’ DUI arrest

Jason Day heartbroken by 'hero' Tiger Woods' 'self-centered' DUI arrest

Jason Day Reflects on Tiger Woods’ Struggles

Jason Day expressed sympathy for Tiger Woods, who is currently battling addiction. However, as Day spoke to reporters on Monday in Augusta, Georgia, one nagging question lingered in his mind: how could Woods have driven a car?

“I see him as just another person, dealing with personal challenges like everyone else,” Day said. “It’s really unfortunate. But I can’t help but think it’s somewhat selfish for him to get behind the wheel and potentially endanger others.”

Woods won’t be competing in this week’s Masters, but his recent arrest on March 27 in Jupiter Island, Florida, is certainly shadowing the tournament.

The golfer was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after crashing into a truck while attempting to overtake it, which flipped his Range Rover. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal damage to property and misdemeanor DUI, having refused to take a legal test.

When police arrested him, they found two painkillers in his pocket.

This marks Woods’ second DUI arrest since 2017 and his fourth known vehicle crash since 2009.

Day, calling Woods a “hero,” pointed out that perhaps his success on the golf course might partly explain why Woods drove on that day. “When you think about how determined he’s been as a player, it leads people to believe he can handle anything. That might explain why he chose to drive, even if he was under the influence,” Day commented.

Latest Updates on Woods’ Situation

According to TMZ, Woods has received permission to leave the country for medical treatment and arrived in Zurich, Switzerland, on Friday morning. In late March, the 15-time major champion acknowledged the gravity of his situation.

“I will be taking some time away to receive treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary for my sustained recovery,” Woods stated.

While Day’s comments could be seen as pointed, he remains supportive of Woods. “He’s my hero. Growing up, he was the reason I fell in love with golf. Watching him struggle, especially under public scrutiny, is tough. There are definitely people who want him to fail, but there are many of us rooting for him to succeed. I hope he seeks help and comes through this stronger.”
