Former NFL star Jason Kelce expressed his excitement for Independence Day on July 4th.
“I love the Fourth! It’s one of those great days when we can set aside our differences and enjoy what we all share. Being Americans!” he shared in an Instagram post, which included a video of him setting off fireworks.
His remarks came shortly after President Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” part of the July 4th festivities at the White House. This led to some backlash against Kelce.
One commenter asked, “Would you like to make a difference?” while another criticized him harshly, saying, “Wow! What’s disappointing about Kelce today wasn’t something I expected.”
Another user added, “I love the guys, but I’ve lost touch with this one. Read the room—many are suffering.”
Nonetheless, many defended Kelce’s stance. “I’m proud you’re taking this position,” one supporter wrote. “Having different opinions is completely okay.”
They continued, “Being alone in your beliefs is part of the beauty of democracy. This represents what July 4th is about.”
As of Saturday afternoon, his post had over 132,000 likes and close to 4,000 comments.
Kelce, along with his brother, Travis of the Kansas City Chiefs, has generally kept his political views private. Interestingly, Travis’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the last presidential race.
